The Cape fox (Vulpes chama) is the smallest canid and the only true fox occurring in southern Africa. Widespread in the central and western regions of southern Africa, they are absent only in extreme south-western Angola. This fox has expanded their range over recent decades to the south-west, where they reaches the Atlantic and Indian Ocean coastlines. Small rodents are an important food source, but hares, reptiles, birds, invertebrates, and some wild fruits are also taken to supplement the diet.
