The Sechuran fox (Lycalopex sechurae) is a small South American canid species inhabiting a narrow region west of the Andes Mountains, along the coast of Peru and southern Ecuador. A generalist, omnivorous species, these foxes often depend primarily on seeds or seed pods of species like algarrobo, zapote, and vichayo for food and water. As such, they are considered a key seed disperser in the region, enabling germination during sporadic rain. This species is often targeted due to their potential threat to fowl and guinea pigs, as well as its use in traditional medicine.
