Elusive Neotropical canid endemic to the Amazon Basin, typically associated with lowland rainforest and forested foothills; rarely observed and likely naturally low-density. Reported pressures include habitat loss and fragmentation, depletion of prey base, and disease transmission from domestic dogs.
