Southern Cone Working Group

The group addresses research and conservation needs across the South American foxes traditionally placed in Pseudalopex or Lycalopex. It focuses on species with restricted ranges or limited ecological data, including Darwin’s, Sechuran and hoary foxes, as well as unresolved taxonomy and population trends.

Coordinator: Diego Queirolo

Objectives

Implement a permanent conservation programme for Darwin’s fox.

Improve knowledge of the ecology and threats affecting hoary and Sechuran foxes.

Review the taxonomy of the Pseudalopex or Lycalopex group.

Improve knowledge of culpeo, chilla and pampas fox population dynamics where hunting or skin trade occurs.
