The Pampas fox (Lycalopex gymnocercus) is a medium-sized species inhabiting the Southern Cone of South America, chiefly the Chaco, Argentine Monte, and Pampas ecoregions. An adaptable carnivore, they show great geographic variation in diet and may include both wild and domestic vertebrates, resulting in conflict with local peoples over threats to their livestock. Despite persecution, this fox remains adaptable and common amongst most of their historic range. In the northern part of its range, the pampas fox is more richly coloured than in the south.
