The Indian wolf (Canis lupus pallipes) is a subspecies of grey wolf that ranges from Southwest Asia to the Indian subcontinent. Compared to other grey wolves, this subspecies is smaller, more slender, and has shorter fur with little to no underfur. They are also prone to living in smaller packs and are generally less vocal. Blackbucks are the primary food source for this subspecies and are hunted in coordinated packs, while hares and rodents help supplement the diet. Although grey wolves are generally classed as Least Concern, this subspecies is Vulnerable and prone to persecution.
